What is identity?

The dictionary defines identity as 1) the fact of being who or what a person or thing is and 2) a close similarity or affinity.

So, what is my identity?

I am a daughter. I am a sister. I am a wife. I am a mother. I am a friend. I am a counselor. I am a mentor. I am a leader. I am a blogger. I guess I could be identified by many different titles, but the identity that I hold on to tightly is my identity in Christ.

I am God’s. His daughter, His friend, His beloved, made in His image, seated in Heavenly places with Him in Christ Jesus, a part of His body, chosen, loved, redeemed, victorious, His treasure, and so much more. For this is my true identity…and this identity helps me to stand when it seems like everything around me is falling. It is in knowing who I am in Christ, that enables me to love the unlovable, forgive those who sin against me, walk on top of the water when the storm is raging and the boat is sinking, to face fear head on and conquer it, and to believe in the impossible. It is in this identity that I can smile on rainy days, I can laugh while crying, I can remain encouraged and live with complete confidence…knowing that I am His and He is mine.

  1. I am keeping this truth close to me right now. Satan is after me, and I am trusting God to deliver me. I am His child!
